Red hair occurs naturally in only one to two percent of the human population. It is most common in individuals homozygous for a recessive allele on chromosome 16 that produces an altered version of the MC1R protein.
The MC1R Project is a portrait study of natural redheads locally (Pittsburgh, PA) and throughout the world. Kaela discovered that her collection of redhead portraits was growing and wanted to continue to expand the series. Inspired by their unique qualities, redheads continue to be an inspiration and favorite subject for Kaela. The MCR1 Project brings recognition and admiration to the subjects possessing this rare trait.
The show will take place at the Kaela Speicher Photography studio at the end of 2019. Date to be announced.
Kaela Speicher Photography is looking for more willing subjects of all ages and sizes to add to the show. Must have natural un-dyed red hair. Participation includes a complimentary portrait session, 1 digital image, and invitation to the show. Please fill out the contact form below if you wish to participate. Limited spots available.
